The Pantry Light Stays On During Crisis
“I can’t always write a check, but I can always give of myself.” Janelle Larghi is quoting her grandfather, Sam Roemer, the founder of a New Jersey food pantry that Janelle still runs. Now more than ever do Roemer’s words hold even more meaning. Since the COVID-19 shut down and updated mandates from the local Board of Health, Tri-Boro Food Pantry’s operations have been forced to change on a weekly basis. In person shopping has turned into a 5 minute drive by pickup of prepackaged food. Their once robust staff of volunteers have since been forced to turn into a two person operation, Janelle and her husband Dave Larghi. And while operations have been forced to downsize, demand for the pantry’s services have increased as the number of patrons have more than tripled.
